Special Exhibition
Magie des Lichts
Experiments and optical illusions
Light is a ubiquitous, fundamental form of energy. Without sunlight, life on Earth would be inconceivable. At the same time, humans are visual beings. Our brains use more nerve cells for seeing than for processing all other sensory impressions combined.
With interactive stations, the exhibition brings to life the experiments of scientists like Isaac Newton, which were so highly regarded at the beginning of modern physical research.
The exhibition presents vivid and challenging experimental setups for hands-on exploration and wonder. It’s a journey of discovery with experiments and apparatuses exploring light refraction and reflection – with mirrors and lenses, prisms and lasers.
Historical and modern devices, most of which can be used independently, showcase the diverse cultural history of optics and lighting: We present Zootop, camera obscura, magic lantern, kaleidoscopes, and, of course, film.
The exhibition is suitable for all types of schools.
